Buying an E-book? Why Not Just Borrow for Free?
E-book has come a long way. The number of people transitioning to ebook has gone up, though for me, paperback books are still the best. But if you are among those people who likes to read, it can really be a hassle if you find your room transforming to a mini library cause of your book collections.
E-books are handy and less expensive. What if you want to read the novel A Song of Ice and Fire cause you were quite hooked with the Game of Thrones TV series. You can buy it or why not just save your money and just borrow the digital copy of the book? The National Library of Singapore has been offering this for a few years already.
If you want to try, just head on to their website www.nlb.gov.sg and click the eResources on the left side and you will be tranferred to the digital section where you can search for particular book that you like. Aside from ebooks, you can also borrow magazines, mangas, audios and videos. If you find a book that you want to borrow, just add it to your cart and checkout after. You need to register before you can borrow from them. This service is absolutely free.
Thumbs up to Singapore for this.

IMHO: Singtel's New Data Plan, Speed and More
Singtel has implemented it's new data plan last July 1, 2012 for new and recontracting customers which offer less data bundle but more number of SMS.
I think this is a really bad move by Singtel. Here are the reasons why I think some of the subscribers are so mad about this changed:
First, they increase the number of sms to compensate for the small data bundle. Oh come on, please tell me that you atleast did a study of some sort that a lot of people still use SMS to justify your increase on the number of allowable SMS on each plan. I can't even used my 500 sms per month. How am I supposed to use 900 sms monthly? Maybe you can increase the number of talk time.
Second, it's ok to cut the bundled data but slashed it from 12gb to 2gb? Seriously? 2gb? Then your site says that 2gb is more than enough but tell us ways on how we can save on data by manually syncing our email, by connecting to wifi, by switching off our cellular data when not in use. So can you tell me what's the meaning of "You'll realise that your lifestyle really doesn't have to change." when clearly everything has to change??? I think if you cut the data to 5gb, consumers will accept this. I myself use the streaming radio on my phone aside from the seldom youtube-ing and I think 2gb won't suffice. We buy a smartphone, subscribe to a data plan, so that we can use it on the go, anytime we want without having to find a wifi hotspot just to stream a video on youtube.
Third, I know this move will help your congested network but maybe adding some more investment on the capacity of your network might do the job as well. The demand for mobile data is increasing and so should the capacity of your network. I can't even get decent internet speed when I'm at home and sometimes I just want to throw my phone because a webpage will take forever to load. I mean these changes are for a better network, less congestion, but I still have the same dial-up speed even when my phone has a 3G signal.
Now I'm contemplating of switching to other network because of this. I just hope the other telcos won't follow this or atleast offer us a choice between more data bundle versus the number of free SMS.

Smart Blackberry Plan: Now P599
Better late than never, right Smart? After all, the other 2 telecom in the Philippines has been offering the Blackberry plan below P600 for quite some time. And now, Smart telecom, the largest mobile carrier in the Philippines, cut down their Blackberry plan to P599/month. This will really make the competition even tighter.

New Singtel Postpaid Plan: Lesser Data Bundle = Faster and Reliable Connection???
Starting July 1, 2012, Singtel will be implementing their new postpaid plan with data bundle. The new plan offers lesser amount of data. As you can see below, Flexi lite plan ($39.90) has only 2Gb data compared to before which is a generous 12Gb. Flexi Value plan (59.90) data has been reduced also to 3Gb. To compensate for the lesser data bundle, the new plan offers higher number of SMS.
Imho, they should have just let the consumer choose what they want, higher data bundle or more SMS. For me, I prefer more data.

The Perks
Two weeks ago, I decided to gave in to Samsung galaxy tab. I signed up for a plan 56 and got it free. It was really a bargain so I didn't think twice.
I showed it to my ex-housemates and they can't believe that you don't have pay anything on plan 56. Then some of 'em were considering this than iphone4.
After a few days, one of my ex-housemates (oha, parang Pinoy Big Brother lang. Ahaha) signed up for that plan + a free Samsung gtab. And guess what, since she's an employee of Samsung C&T, her MSF is discounted. Instead of paying 56, her monthly bill goes down to 46. And her one month advanced is waived. Talk 'bout having perks.

Only In The Philippines....NOT
I bet all of us have experienced receiving those annoying spam text messages. It could be from those people who are pretending to be your relatives and asking for phone credits. Some are informing you that you won something. Others are offering you insurance, selling you stuffs, atbp.
Well, it's not only in the Philippines. Even abroad, these things are happening. I received this text earlier.
